THEMES FROM JUNE 2nd – AUGUST 6th 2025
(return to schedule page for costs and booking)
As ever, these on-going classes are stand-alone so that you can drop-in as you wish (except Tuesday which needs booking) and start in any week. If you are able to come regularly you will get a more complete picture. Of course all the classes are for your whole self, not just one part or aspect, but we can explore from different angles. That means that all the classes overlap and interweave, so coming on different days works too. Of course themes recurr over time too, but never a simple replay of any previous term as my teaching develops and the people in the class do too!
Drop in when you can or immerse yourslef in regular attendance for the learning to accumulate – but above all integrate it into your life.
(You do need to be able to get up and down from the floor for these public classes. Please contact me before coming if you have challenging injuries or conditions to discuss whether the class is suitable)
“STANDING TALL”
Finding your full length is a challenge for all of us whoever we are, at almost any age. Our tall narrow structure is easily shortened by the life habits we learn from sitting, using computers or phones, and from coping with the vicissitudes of life.
We will explore our own fundamental movement patterns and find ways of reducing unneccessary tension, re-balancing muscular effort, finding skeletal support and enabling our potential length in many directions and positions, without resorting to the more limited gains of stretching.
Mondays 7.30-8. 30pm (UK) ON ZOOM
Tuesdays 7.45 – 8.45pm at The Haelan Centre, London, N8 (side entrance)
“PUSH PULL REACH”
A good opportunity to explore the ease and mobility of your shoulders as well as the use of your whole self from the ground up to your eyes to improve the functional range, grace and power of your arms.
Wednesdays 10-11am (UK) on ZOOM
“TRANSITIONS”
How we move from one place, one position, one action to another.
Isnt it the really important bit?
We can be so focussed on achieving a squat or posture – or just standing up – that how we get there and back – how we move – is lost. In the fundamentals of getting up from, or down to, a chair, a bed, the floor; stepping from one foot to another, changing direction, and so on, lie all the deep patterns of moving through the world that we have learnt and developed. Patterns that involve the skills of balance, agility, efficiency, quality; the wear we might put on our joints or how we limit the use our eyes.
This is a huge, rich area for exploring from small slow detail to bigger more dynamic. As ever I will do my best to tailor it to the needs of those who come.
Fridays: 1.30-2.30pm at The Crouch End Fitness Centre, London N8
